Drums

Bass class was cancelled yesterday because the si fu had meeting to attend. Since I already drove all the way there, I decided not to go back early. So, I sat in the drum class! The class was ahead already, so they were learning new stuff. Like how to add in other stuff than just the bass and snare.

There were a few natural drummers (fuyoh, chewah). Teacher's pets hahah because they could catch up so quickly after being taught just once. Geng right? Talents in WMC Kuantan. Terharu...

Anyway, to go off topic.. Usually in a private tuition there would be 1 teacher and 3-5 students, correct? Yesterday, there were 3 teachers teaching 1 SPM student! I taught maths, and the other 2 (numi n chai) taught physics and add maths. Gengness. We studied from 9am to 2pm. Not bad lar.. and all these studying and teaching motivated me to start preparing for uni already! See? Even the teachers benefited from this. Numi overcomed her fear of facing physics, and chai, hm.. he got his free food.

Sg. Lembing

Why did I wake up at 4.30am? Because I was going to Sg. Lembing!

I went to Sg. Lembing with numi n chai 2 days ago. At first I didn't want to go because I wasn't well, and it was after VBS, super tiring. But I got a lecture about me being too weak because I do not exercise etc etc. So I went.

We left at 5 am, arrive around 5.50am and started climbing Panorama Hill at 6am. (I didn't know it is called Panorama Hill, I used to call it Sg. Lembing Hill). Anyway, since it was my first time, numi made me take picture with the steps as proof. Then we found out we took pic of the wrong steps.

There you go. Pb at the start of the hill.

The steps were high. So, being as short as I am, I needed to lift my leg higher. Haha, it was super tiring. But 'half of the world' was there (because it was Deepavali holiday) and so, on and off we had stop and wait or move slower.

After about 34 minutes, we finally arrived the peak! Yay.. and 'half of the world' was there. So we couldn't take much pictures. The 2 photographers I went with had no mood taking pictures, but the scenery was really really nice... It was still dark when we arrive, but still, we couldn't see sunrise because it was cloudy.

Ah.. without steps.

We arrived!

When my face is not so red anymore. I did it!!

Half of the world

After that, we, together with half of the world went down the hill and ate breakfast, went to the hanging bridges (both the spoilt one and the good one) and also to the crystal house. We didn't know that one of the hanging bridge was in a bad condition and we weren't suppose to use it, until one of the lady staying there told us. Well, thankfully the bridge didn't collapse.

The not-so-good hanging bridge with many people on it

Wait until I'm fit enough, I'll bring you who are not from Kuantan here k?

VBS

Last weekend, I spent my time with kids! A lot of em.. in Vacation Bible School. I was the Station Leader for Hyperspeed Games. What is VBS? It's open for children between Standard 1 to Standard 6 to come for an enjoyable time learning more about Jesus. This time, the theme was 'Power Lab' where all the lessons were made such a way that it was scientific, experimental and creative.

I had fun conducting games for the children. The way they responded to questions and lessons learnt from the games - so cute. It was also tough to manage them, especially those hyperactive ones, thus, I lost my voice.. (again!).
My lil sis and her friends

Pray

It was a very tiring weekend, but I enjoyed myself and I believe the rest of the crew did as well. Jesus Power!! (haha)

Below is a video of the children during Sonic Sing & Play singing (and dancing) 'Get up, get up'. It's about telling the world about Jesus. Enjoy... =)

Oh yea, I forgot.

Of course I called the police when the guy ran away. The lady told me this "Ok, bila laki tu datang balik, kamu call sini ok?" (trans : ok, when the guy comes back, call again)

I put down the phone immediately and called my dad.

What bout the kids? They came out from the kitchen and saw the 'uncle' and both of them were standing there watching me. According to my mum, they thought I was playing with the uncle. They ran upstairs and downstairs, asking my mum, "Lao shi (teacher), who's that uncle?"

Haha.. so cute.

Grateful

It all happened too quickly. I remember his eyes and his voice.

My mum just came back from Taska (around 12.45pm) and she came in with the 2 kids. I remember asking her to close the door, and she did. Of all days, she did not lock the door, thinking my dad would be home soon. Then, she was upstairs while I was watching movie in the living room. I remember glancing over at my phone to check the time. 12.50pm it said. And the moment I put my phone down, a hand covered my face and something was pressing my throat. I wasn't thinking. In fact, I almost laughed and wanted to say, "Oi, dad, don't play la.."

Before I could move or said anything, I knew something was wrong. A stranger's voice behind me said, "Mou yok (in canto..translation : don't move)." Then only I realised he came into my house quietly. I couldn't move, or think when I found out that the 'something' against my throat was a knife. Yeah, long kitchen kinda knife (my lil sis would know what it is called).

My pillow did its part to save me. I used it to block the knife away from me the moment the knife left my neck. And I used all the voice I had left to scream for my mum... but unfortunately she did not listen. The two kids were in the kitchen (thank God), I was so afraid for them. And the thief stole my handphone and my bro's lousy laptop.

He wore a hankerchief around his mouth and nose, and a helmet. Looked like construction worker, thin and not so tall. But he can really run.

Until now, I could feel the hands on my face, and recall the moment when the knife was pointing directly at me the whole time the incident occured. Naomi came, my dad's boss came, lotsa people called, so people, I'm fine. I spent two hours crying firstly because I was in shock, and then its because I'm simply grateful to be safe.

I didn't feel anything actually when the whole drama was happening. Because I was in disbelief. I was worried for my mum and the two kids, because he had a weapon. My mum tried chasing after that guy. That's when I started crying and called my dad. I'm just so thankful that noone got hurt.

Hee, so, for the moment, I'm using back my old number yah.

p/s : I even prayed for the guy! You know, maybe he needed some money. I'm the one who has someone up there protecting me. He doesn't know anyone. He might be a junkie, but maybe one day we can minister to these people in the streets.

Bass

I just came bck from my 1st lesson. Hahahahaha.. I'm learning bass!

My church member, Calvin and his friend, Lee are teaching drum and bass for free in church. So, since I'm free, I thought of picking up bass (also, because my church only left one bassist after my bro left). I learnt the exercises to stretch my fingers, how to follow rhythm etc etc. Some of those who learnt with me are totally new to music, so we progressed slowly.

pb learning bass!

ok, promotion time:

WMC Kuantan members, who wanna learn drum/bass and serve, come and learn! For beginners only k?

Time : 8.30pm - 10.00 pm
Venue : WMC Kuantan sanctuary

Bukit Pelindung

Ever since I came back from my one-month travelling around, I felt like moving around more. So, believe it or not, pb walks up pelindung hill on alternate days with numi! (I feel so healthy hahah)

My first time up the hill was i think 2 - 3 years ago, when abelene was around.. with cle and phil as well (I think). And not even a quarter way up, I remember abe said, "Pheebs, u look very pale... you wanna rest?" And I was out of breath.. just managed a nod.

So, last Wednesday I went up again. My 2nd time, which I considered my first since I forgot how it was like. At the beginnng of the hill, numi warned me not to regret it. The experience was similiar to my first walk up the hill. We agreed to do this every Monday, Wednesday and Friday..

This week, I brought my lil sister along (her first time) and she went up without having a break. Strong gal..

Going uphill now is not as tiring anymore.. hee hee hee! But I salute numi. She talks and sings all the way up!

Librarian & vocal training

I worked in the library for a month (May to June) in STM (Seminari Teology Malaysia), Seremban. Although there were A LOT of work to be done, I enjoyed working there.

The good thing about working in a library is that I was surrounded by books...Lots of them.. It's like a book paradise! But the not so good thing about that is I have no time to read them. I still remember my duty as a part time librarian:

Put back the books from the trolley to the respective shelves, process new books and articles from newspaper, yada yada. I cannot imagine how will the library store so many books as it has new books every week for display.

My initial plan in Seremban was just to learn how to improve my singing. And I worked in the library to make myself more useful. So, as most of you know, I love singing! I had around 5 - 6 lessons only (one lesson, one hour). Therefore, I tried my very best to learn as much as possible in that short duration.

Vocal training actually helped me see that I've not been using the right technique all along! haha.. Habit is hard to break so must prac alot..

La la la la~~ i still love singing, right or wrong technique! hee hee

p/s: Daphne and Esther, we didn't jam the night before I left!!

Girlfriends

If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! -- Ecclesiastes 4:9
I'm really grateful to have met friends I can rely on as I continue this journey called life.

Firstly, my sis. She's not someone I met haha. We share the same room for almost 17 years! Share problems, secrets, etc. I cannot hide secrets from her, she somehow as this aura... "Pb must tell me everything! No secrets! Gahahaha" like that.

Next is Abe! We actually knew each other since we were very very young, but we only got close during secondary school. Although we are very different, we share the same passion for singing! Even our fathers look the same. I remember we can sing anywhere, anytime, especially during recess. AND she's really pro at drawing 5 petal flowers. We even 'broke up' as our April Fool trick..and it worked! heh heh heh

Then, numi! She's my prayer partner and we love singing too! Hee hee.. She is I think the most positive person I've met. Because we share many similarities, talking for 4 hours and above is not a problem. Ice-cream at TC numi!

Sther!! She's the one I went travelling with for a month. I just met her last year in college. My first time away from home, into KL. I prayed for a friend whom I can relate to, and I met her! I forgot how we became close, but I'm thankful for her. I inherited her lameness but that's ok. She's ever ready for the camera. So if you like photography and wanna experiment etc, feel free to find her.. hahah!
I thank God for friends. I pray that I will be a good one to my friends.
"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." -- John 15:12-13

Hope

but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. -- Isaiah 40:31

Childhood

Try remembering back your childhood days.. happy ones of course! Does it put a smile on your face? Or maybe made you feel silly for a moment? HEE! I do!

I still remember as a little girl (age, not size), my bro, sis and I would play games at night before we go to bed. Because we were small, the room could fit all of us and I used to think that my room was VERY BIG.

What games we played? We used our imagination (hahah!).. reminds me of Barney and Friends. I shall not reveal so much or I'll embarrass my bro n sis. But I'll mention ONE GAME only!

The game is called 'The Lion Game'. When I was young, I don't like to participate in that game cz I was scared la (duh).

How to play? My bro will signal when to build the house, and when the lion will come. Sounds like the 3 little pigs right?

Bro : One, two, three! Faster build the house!!
*Sis builds house hurrily while I cheered on them with my blanket over my head*
Bro : The lion is coming!
Me : I'm not playing ah! I'm not playing ah!
*Bro's shadow walked pass towards sis' bed*
*Everyone screamed*

And the whole cycle begins again... build the house, lion comes, scream.

You can sweat/laugh/stare blankly at screen/whatever now.

Teaching

I decided to try teaching in a secondary school because they needed a temporary teacher and I wanna see if I would enjoy my future profession. So, I accepted the offer to teach in SMKTA (Tengku Afzan) and taught F4 Maths + Moral and F2 Maths.
I could still remember when I first enter the office. The GPK Pentadbiran told me that I would be a class teacher. And she said, "Buatlah apa yang semua cikgu buat. Tak faham, tanya. Itu saja." Then she showed me my seat. Scary..

My first error was not bringing any marker pens to class. Next error was revealing my age (right after I left my first class, almost all the students knew me. That's how fast news flies around school).
Well, I had fun teaching em, meeting the parents..haha seeing their shocked faces, helping my class (4J) in their arts test.. hee hee.. They needed help in drawing mangosteen k... and the stem.. reminds me of wei juin's 5 petal flower which looked like pac-man's enemy.

When I'm in class, I would sit among my students and the next teacher who comes in would mistaken me as one of them.

I also remember attending assemblies, teacher's annual meeting, giving warning letters, marking test papers, announcing test results, having students who question too much or those who tried to be teacher's pet. Oh, and I'm quite sporting k.. I let my students listen to music on handphone.. they paid attention in my class, they needed a break k.

Best of all, the principal tegur-ed me and said I'm too sexy.. (hee hee hee hee hee hee).. can u imagine that, of all people pb is sexy. Bad bad influence.

Girls, I will remember u all!!

10 months

As most of you know, I took a year off.. sort of like a study break. A long one! hee.. and now I'm study-sick. To summarise what I did so far.....

Jan - March - Taught in mum's taska. I had fun with the little kids, amused by what they do. So innocent and curious. They made me laugh everyday hahaha.. and unleashed the little girl in me.

March - Apr - Preparing for NTU entrance exam.. (I didn't manage to get through)

May - June - Stayed in Seremban and worked in STM (Seminari Teologi Malaysia) library, while having intensive vocal lesson. It really helped!

June - Aug - Taught in SMKTA. Form 4 Maths & Moral, and Form 2 Maths. So fun! Especially when I was the Form 4J class teacher. Gave warning letters, met the students parents to give report cards. I still can remember the expression on their faces when they came to see me. Oh oh! And marking exam papers, giving back the exam papers, and having students requesting to add marks. hee hee..

Aug - Sept - Trained back-up singers in my church, Perak District music camp, church family camp

Sept - Oct - KL - Ipoh - Cameron Highlands - Kampar - Ipoh - KL - Singapore - KL - Penang - Pulau Langkawi - Penang - KL - Kuantan. For a month I stayed with Esther's family in KL. Thanks a lot for hosting me!!
