I just came back from camp this afternoon. Camp ended yesterday, it's a long story why I came back today when I suppose to be back tomorrow. I'll blog about it later =)
This camp is specifically for college/university students, organised by the Methodist church. So, the focus for this year's camp is on observing, engaging and be a part of the people surrounding us. We had the chance for 3 days of field trips.
Firstly, they were sent to Midvalley Megamall (I came later in the evening, so i didn't join the group) to observe lifestyle. How lifestlye defines a person's character, and expresses one's identity. We got to learn from each other's opinions during group discussion later at night.
The next day, we were divided into 3 groups to observe societal dysfunctions and if we have the chance, talk to the people we meet. One group was sent to Petaling Street, another to Kota Raya and the last group to Rumah Petros. I went to Rumah Petros, a home that welcomes people that are not accepted by most in the societ ie. ex-prisoners, ex-drug pusher, etc. Again, during the group discussion we question on the definition of dysfunctions and values.
Suffering was our next lesson. My group was suppose to walk around Brickfields and talk to the people there. Listen to what they have to say, about their lives, etc. Other groups went to the people with HIV and cancer and to the street feeding.
There were many stories to tell. I'm so excited to be able to hear testimonies from the participants and also the people I've met. This camp really opened my eyes to see what's happening around me. When I have the time I'll blog more about my experience. Sabar ye..
